What a day it was for our children yesterday with the Staff vs Year 6 netball match! It was a fantastic event full of intense competitiveness and a gruelling workout for us teachers. It was tricky trying to get the ball past Mr Laycock and Jonathan but they managed to score a few goals. Although the children tried their best, the staff took no prisoners and won 20 something- 6. Better luck next time, Year 6!

Wow! Look at some of the final pieces of artwork made by #Dring10. For our art/DT learning this half-term, we were tasked with drawing mountains linked to our geography learning. We then had to bring the drawings to life by creating a 3D model using papier maché techniques. We were very proud of the final pieces. Well done, Class 10!

Mrs Floyd`s absolute favourite time of the week is taking #Dring10 to the library. It`s a pleasure to see the children forming mini book clubs, sharing reading recommendations, enjoying a good story, and discussing books. Class 10 always manage to find the most interesting reading positions (as demonstrated in the photos).

#Dring10 enjoyed performing their short role plays, where they imagined an alternate ending to `Floodland` by Marcus Sedgwick. The children had incredibly creative and interesting ideas as to what would happen next. We are looking forward to writing our ideas as narratives later in the week!

UKS2 had some wonderful free workshops today about the Trailblazers Trail that is coming to York this summer. The children learnt about what a trailblazer is before solving riddles linked to 17 trailblazers from York such as Mary Tuke and Annie Coutlate. They also created their own freeze frames based on their learning. The trail can be done from 1st August across York and our children are keen to share their knowledge!

Our Year 6s weren`t put off by the weather today and they had a BRILLIANT time at the Brownlee Triathlon. Most of the children had never heard of a triathlon before but they swam, cycled and ran their way to the finish line with huge grins on their faces. It was a joy to see the determination the children had to achieve a goal and how proud they were at the end.

Book club in #Dring10 today was so much fun with the children sharing their ideas for sequels to their favourite books. Ideas included a sequel to The 3 Little Pigs where the wolf was actually under the influence of a mysterious dark force and teams up with the pigs, and a sequel to The Dictionary where `only fun words remain`. The children shared their incredibly imaginative ideas and loved thinking about how they could even write their sequels. A great discussion was had by all! Check out the Class Padlet for more examples.

More Science fun for Class 9 today! Some "worms" had escaped a scientist`s laboratory and we were on the hunt to see which would camouflage most successfully. While some groups were recording their finds, we enjoyed sitting outside and reading/researching more animals that can disguise themselves.

Happy World Book Day ...and what a great day it was! UKS2 focused on `The Book of Mythical Beasts and Magical Creatures` and learnt about creatures of the air, land and sea. We did a STEM investigation on flying with Miss Eames, orienteering to solve puzzles with Mr Field and made creatures of our own using our computing skills with Mrs Skidmore. We finished the day by reading with our house groups. A brilliant effort all round on outfits as well - thank you!

Today we did some geography fieldwork. We thought about questions we might ask about the local area and made tally charts. We surveyed the area and mapped the use of buildings. We then thought about what changes might be positive or negative to our local area.
