Post 2: UKS2 were incredibly fortunate to have a doctor (who is one of our fabulous parents) visit us today for a presentation about the heart. The children had the chance to observe the heart at different stages of dissection as well as hold the heart if they chose to. It was an incredibly inspiring and memorable morning for us all. Thanks so much to our wonderful visitor for coming in to talk to us.

Today in Science, we explored the fascinating world of blood and its four main components! 🩸 Using everyday items, the students created jars representing blood, complete with red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. A hands-on way to bring biology to life! 🧪❤️ #DringScience #DringCreative #DringBiology

UKS2 had a wonderful afternoon learning about the heart linked to our science topic of `The Circulatory System`. The children recreated the pumping of the heart using jars, balloons and straws before using drama to act out the movement of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood around the body.
Here are some pictures and videos of the fun that was had!

Years 5 and 6 learnt about Remembrance Day today. The children studied the poem `In Flanders Fields` by John McCrae and discussed how it made them feel. Following this, they created a `Blackout Poem` by selecting words that they felt were important to make a new poem. The children then added an image to black out the rest of the words. Here are some examples of their fabulous work.

It was Year 4`s turn at @theyorkshiremuseum today. They were just as curious and thoughtful as Year 3 were yesterday and had fantastic questions. Getting to see so many rare and important artifacts uncovered at a site so close to where we live was awe inspiring.
Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped us over the last two days, your support allows us to enhance and enrich our learning.

Today, #Dring10 worked together to make some Roman honey biscuits. The children helped with every step of the recipe while making notes about what was happening. They particularly enjoyed beating the mixture at the start. Luckily, there were plenty of volunteers as there were some very tired arms by the end! We hope the children enjoyed the finished biscuits 🍯🍪.

Class 6 enjoyed our learning this week about cave paintings. We thought about why they are significant, what they tell us about the past, and how they were created. We investigated storytelling through cave painting and developed our sketching skills.
Today, we celebrated all the knowledge we have gained by creating our own paints from nature and designing our own cave-painting inspired pictures.

In LKS2 this week we are becoming poets! We have started the week by listening to a variety of poets performed by the authors. We used this as inspiration to think about how we can perform a poem. Over the week we will develop our poetry writing skills and will write a poem ready to share it with the rest of the school at Harvest Festival on Monday. Swipe all the way through to see 4 children from Class 6 showing off their hard work.

What a day it was for our children yesterday with the Staff vs Year 6 netball match! It was a fantastic event full of intense competitiveness and a gruelling workout for us teachers. It was tricky trying to get the ball past Mr Laycock and Jonathan but they managed to score a few goals. Although the children tried their best, the staff took no prisoners and won 20 something- 6. Better luck next time, Year 6!

Wow! Look at some of the final pieces of artwork made by #Dring10. For our art/DT learning this half-term, we were tasked with drawing mountains linked to our geography learning. We then had to bring the drawings to life by creating a 3D model using papier maché techniques. We were very proud of the final pieces. Well done, Class 10!

Mrs Floyd`s absolute favourite time of the week is taking #Dring10 to the library. It`s a pleasure to see the children forming mini book clubs, sharing reading recommendations, enjoying a good story, and discussing books. Class 10 always manage to find the most interesting reading positions (as demonstrated in the photos).

Create day was fantastic! Thank you to @royaloperahouse for putting on such engaging lessons and a brilliant day pulling it all together. LKS2 have been working on the dance, songs and art work for the last few weeks and it was joyful to share it with some of the other classes in school today.
#Dring10 enjoyed performing their short role plays, where they imagined an alternate ending to `Floodland` by Marcus Sedgwick. The children had incredibly creative and interesting ideas as to what would happen next. We are looking forward to writing our ideas as narratives later in the week!

Today, the second half of our Year 5s visited Millthorpe School for their science workshops. The children had a fabulous time looking through microscopes, learning about pH levels, creating circuits, and finding about electromagnets. There were lots of `Wow moments` and learning opportunities throughout the time we were there. Thank you to Millthorpe for hosting us!

UKS2 had some wonderful free workshops today about the Trailblazers Trail that is coming to York this summer. The children learnt about what a trailblazer is before solving riddles linked to 17 trailblazers from York such as Mary Tuke and Annie Coutlate. They also created their own freeze frames based on their learning. The trail can be done from 1st August across York and our children are keen to share their knowledge!

Today, half of our Year 5 children visited Millthorpe School for a wonderful science lesson. They used microscopes to observe different cells, tested the pH levels of household liquids, used electromagnets to move paperclips, and explored circuits. We had a brilliant morning and loved engaging in some practical science. Thanks to Millthorpe for hosting us!
